Happy almost-Spring snail mail lovers, are you as starved for colour as we are?

Winter is definitely long (and grey) here in Canada and with brighter days on the horizon, we're more than ready to embark on another pretty mail adventure with you. It's time for a little monochromatic magic...

The Monochromatic Mail Swap is the perfect opportunity for colour lovers or lovers of one colour or even lovers of no colours at all to get creative!

Pick a colour, any colour, and create pretty mail using a variety of hues and shades in the same colour family.

Perhaps this means playing with black, white and all the shades of grey in between.

Or maybe you’d rather get crafty with shades of pink and red.

Really, the sky’s the limit (and speaking of which, wouldn’t mail encompassing a spectrum of blues from sea to sky be simply smashing? Sorry, got carried away there - alliteration is lit!)

Have you already started mentally picking your colour scheme? More info this way ...

Tell Me More!

  • You will be placed in a group of 3-5* and will exchange pretty mail with each member of your group. Most participants send and receive 3 pieces of pretty mail.
  • Pick a colour or shade and create cohesive and thoughtful mail to share with your partners. White and metallics can be used in any colour scheme as accents, if desired.
  • Decorate or make an artful envelope using your chosen colour as the jumping off point.
  • Make your mail extra-special using beautiful lettering, hand drawn details, stamps, patterned paper, washi tape, paint… anything goes!
  • Inside your envelope, continue the colour story. You should include a handmade card or other clever mail. Your partners would love to hear about you, your inspiration and what your colour choice means to you.
  • Include a little goodie (or two) with your note. Not sure what to include? How about stickers, a pretty postcard, a sweet treat or a recipe that corresponds to your colour theme (blueberry pie for blue mail / black & white cookies for black & white mail, etc). Make sure that any/all add-ins are colour coordinated with your monochrome mail.
  • This swap is all about getting creative and challenging yourself! While exchanging “stuff” is nice, the focus of Pretty Postal Swaps is to create beautiful and unique mail art. We are more interested in seeing decorative envelopes and creative contents than big gift parcels.
  • It’s free to join!
  • Please tag #prettypostalswap when sharing images on social media

* We aim for groups of 4, so that each participant sends and receives 3 pieces of mail, but, due to the dynamics of open sign-ups and special requests, some groups end up a little bigger and some a little smaller.
